Andrew Crumbie runs a Minority Business Enterprise. Founded in 2008, Crumbie Law Group LLC has a culturally diverse team that has been credited with the creative strength and growth of the firm. The breadth and diverse experience of the team at Crumbie Law Group is an acknowledgement of and a response to the ever increasing global environment that they serve. The minorities present within the group boast competency in a number of languages including: Spanish and Cantonese; and more than half the staff consists of women.
A multicultural organisation is formally defined as a work force that includes people from different racial, religious and gender backgrounds as well as minorities integrated across all levels of the company. By this definition, Crumbie Law Group LLC has fulfilled its requirement as a multicultural organisation.
A multicultural work force provides benefits such as: a higher level of innovation, success in marketing to minorities, a better distribution of opportunity and a better chance of starting an associated business in a foreign country due to the insight from your associated employees.
In a multicultural work environment, there can be clashes of beliefs, and experiences in addition to the usual problems that occur in the work place. To avoid this here are some suggestions to keep in mind:
• Be aware of your nature and personal biases. As a leader in the organisation, your employees will model your behaviour. If you are not a leader, still take note of your personal biases as your peers or co-workers will watch how you handle matters and either follow or ostracise you for your behaviours.
• Every organisation within has a unique culture that all employees have worked together to create. Observe that culture and you should be fine.
• Be sensitive to your co-workers habits. They may work differently depending on their experience and culture, show a genuine interest and understanding. They will more than likely be more than happy to share their experiences with you.
• Have a zero tolerance approach to all forms of discrimination, prejudice and bias. This is the best way to keep everybody safe and happy.
As with everything there are obstacles, however, once everybody works together towards the same goal, then there is nothing that cannot be accomplished even if a Christian is working closely with a Muslim.
